Q: Will the problem go away on its own. Do I really need to see a pet behaviourist?

A: The problem may spontaneously resolve, but it’s unlikely. You have got as far as seeking help from the internet so the chances are you already know it’s not getting any better. Get some help and advice and support, and you really will feel much better about the situation.

Q: How long will the process take?

A: How long is a piece of string? I will contact you very quickly and hope to see you as soon as it’s mutually convenient, but after that bit, it can take quite a long time to actually start changing the behaviour. Your pet has probably been practising and perfecting it for a long time!

Q: My pet is really old. Can you really “teach an old dog new tricks?”

A: Yes. The fact that he’s an older pet isn’t stopping you from feeling the feelings you are currently experiencing , so lets give it a go!

Q: Are you the same as the guys we see on the T.V?

A: In a word…no! Virtually all the emphasis on the tv programmes these days is still about “dominance”. That approach is now considered by modern behaviourists to be outdated and misplaced. There is a very good article by barry Eaton if you are interested www.deaf-dogs-help.co.uk

Q: Is it expensive?

A: Compared to what? But your pet’s mental health and welfare is priceless as all pet owners know! Also consider where the next step on the journey might be if you don’t bite the bullet and address the problem now.

Q: Why do I need to see my vet before working with you?

A: It is absolutely vital to see your vet as there are a large number of medical conditions that might affect your pet’s behaviour. We also need to rule out things like pain as a contributory factor, or hormonal problems.
