The Behavioural Consultation Process: What to expect.
- You make contact with me either via your vet or through direct contact.
- We have a chat over the phone and check this is something we can do together.
- I send you out a case history questionnaire to fill in and return to me. You visit your vet to rule out any medical causes for the behavioural problem and ask him/her to sign a form indicating his/her approval.
- I will phone to make an appointment to suit. I will ask for all family members to be present. Please ensure everyone leaves enough time as sessions can last for over two hours. Normally I will come to you, or if you prefer you can come to my consulting rooms.
- We will meet and talk through your questionnaire, formulate some hypotheses as to why your pet might be behaving in this way, and start thinking through some possible solutions. We form a behaviour modification programme, that I will later type up and send you.
- I will demonstrate any techniques as required.
- You are then left to try the programme. Daily practice is required by all family members. Your pet must never be given the opportunity to continue practising the non desired behaviour.
- Follow up consultation if required (see consultation fees, option 2)
- I will phone at a pre- arranged date to see how your pet is progressing and help iron out any problems.
- I will write to your vet and give him a report and precis of our treatment programme.
- Free lifetime backup. I am on the end of the phone!
